Scope and Contents
American Watercolors from the Permanent Collection, held at The Phillips Collection in 1986, was an exhibition which showcased watercolors by American artists, including Charles E. Burchfield, Mark Davis, Arthur Dove, John Ferren, John Marin, Alfred Maurer and Abraham Walkowitz. These curatorial records were collected and created during the research, planning and execution of the American Watercolors from the Permanent Collection exhibition. The exhibition opened at The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 1986 and closed May 25, 1986. The primary creator of the exhibition planning records was The Phillips Collection Curatorial Department. The bulk of the collection consists of exhibition related documents. The records include publicity and correspondence.

Processing Information
After an initial survey of the collection, some documents were identified as being of no future reference value to the collection, such as duplicate documents and
expense reports. These items were weeded with the librarian’s approval. All documents were re-foldered and metal clips were replaced with plastic clips.
